Chinese test-taking proxies held with fake passports
CHIANG Mai police arrested 2 Chinese women who used fake passports as Toefl test taking proxies while five others manage to flee the examination center, Thai News Agency said today (Oct. 16).
Tourist and Immigration police rushed to Chiang Mai University after Assistant Professor Songphan Tantrakoon alerted them that there are foreigners using fake passports as Toefl test imposters.
Police found that Miss Jing Xu, 22, and Miss Jiang Jiang Chuan, 26, both from China, were both carrying their real and a fake passport and arrested them on charges of forging and using fake passports and fake stamps.
They confessed that a broker in China had hired them for 10,000 to 20,000 yuan or around 50,000 to 100,000 baht to take Toefl tests in other countries and that there many of test-fakers like themselves and they had done this for a long time.
Assistant Professor Songphan said his university holds Toefl test once or twice a month and he got suspicious because Miss Jing Xu and Miss Jiang Jiang Chuan looked familiar so he checked the records after which they confessed to being test imposters. Five others came to the examination hall but fled when they saw the police.
