Ivory Coast woman held for smuggling cocaine in stomach
AN Ivory Coast woman was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport today (Dec. 29) for attempting to smuggle several cocaine pellets, weighing altogether 1,260 grams, in her stomach, the Thai-language Matichon daily reported.
Thai anti-narcotics police together with Customs and Narcotics Control Board officials arrested the suspect, Mrs Isata Bakhayoka, 27, an Ivory Coast national, after she traveled here from Lagos in Nigeria, taking a connecting at Doha in Qatar, and finally changing flights in Phuket.
Upon noticing her suspicious behavior, police officers and the officials called her in for a check and an X-ray revealed that there were several oval pellets in her stomach.
A laxative led to 1,260 grams of cocaine emerging from her body.
Police said the suspect admitted that she was hired for US$3,000 to bring the drug to Thailand and give it to an African person in Pratunam area.
Police are further investigating this case with a check also showing that the suspect had traveled to Thailand 5 times previously.
