Student kills self after losing mom’s gift
An 18-year-old student in the northeastern Thai province of Udon Thani hung herself last night after losing a new mobile phone that her mother bought for her as a New Year’s gift, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported today (Jan. 1, 2018).
“She was very upset and cried all day after losing the phone. I told her that it was not a big problem,” said the 56-year-old mother, who had taken care of two daughters after her husband died 10 years ago. “I told her I would buy her a new one.”
The mother felt something wrong when her daughter got into her room after her friends went to buy some food to celebrate the New Year. “I went upstairs and was shocked to find her hanging from the house beam,” she told police investigators.
