A jinx at Thai Government House?

FOR the first time since it was built, Thai Government House this afternoon was festooned with 12 red Chinese-style lanterns, much to the surprise of civil servants working there.

The Thai-language daily Matichon said the lanterns were installed to dispel bad luck after cracks were found in the lotus pond in front of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s office this morning.

Many Thais believe that certain kinds of incidents, such as electric short-circuit, slipping on banana peels, or people hit by falling objects, are a harbinger of bad things to come.

Matichon said the prime minister left Government House at 3.07 p.m. He did not ask anyone why the red lanterns were installed there.
