Gen. Prawit: Construction of Doi Suthep judicial housing halted
DEPUTY Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan said today (April 5) that the opposed construction of Region 5 Appeals Court office and housing for judicial officials at the foot of Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai is being halted and talks about this controversial project will be held on Monday April 9, Thai News Agency reported.
However, he said not all of what has already been built will not be knocked down as called for by those who oppose the project, who want this plot fully reforested.
Whether the powerful Section 44 will be used to resolve this dispute depends on the outcome of the talks taking place next Monday with all units involved, including the provincial court and the Third Army Region 33rd District, participating.
“Initially no more construction will be made, and all sides should hold talks as to what to do with this land plot. The public can use it, including reforesting it, but it cannot be used as judicial officials’ housing anymore.
“However, not all of what has been built will be demolished, and talks have to be held on what these houses are to be used for to the benefit of the public.
“I believe the court won’t sue the public if the project is halted,” Gen Prawit said.
