Search for missing US tourist scaled back
DIVERS searching for a young American man who disappeared while swimming at a dam in southern Surat Thani province since yesterday afternoon had to stop doing so this afternoon (June 9, 2018) because of bad weather, INN News reported.
Mr Wichawut Chinto, governor of Surat Thani, and his team went to the Ratchaprapha or Cheow Lan Dam to check on the search for Jordan William, 30, who was one of 7 Americans on a day trip there yesterday.
The governor said while divers could not continue searching for the young American man today, they would resume doing so tomorrow if the weather improves.
However, the rescuers are going out in boats and using hooks to try to locate his body.
The governor also said the missing American man’s friends came to watch the search but understand the current situation. Some of them are still be questioned by police investigators at Ban Ta Khun police station regarding what happened.
The party of 7 American tourist visited various tourist attractions in the province, had a meal, then went boating in the dam and from a raft there dove in and started swimming with the water being 48 meters deep at that point.
