Back to school – at 84
WITH her five grown-up children already married and living elsewhere, 84-year-old widow Kaysorn Sookserm often wonders what she can do other than chatting with her neighbors and looking after her chicken and vegetable plots.
After consulting with her eldest daughter, Mrs Keysorn enrolled for a course on food and health education at a non-formal education center, located about one kilometer from her home, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported today (August 27, 2018).
From Monday to Friday, Mrs Keysorn bikes with two neighbors to school and back home in late afternoon — a total distance of two kilometers.
“I only completed Grade 4 education because all members of the family had to look after our rice fields,” she recalled.
“Now I am back in school, with teachers much younger than my own children,” she added with a smile.
