Wealthy loan shark arrested
A 43-year-old female loan shark in the southern Thai province of Nakhon Si Thammarat was arrested today (Sept 1, 2018) for carrying out illegal money transactions and charging her clients higher interest rates than allowed by law, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.
Police detectives swooped on Mrs Sonklin Prikkong’s home early in the morning. They found 1.8 million baht in cash, 83-baht weight of gold necklaces and rings in her metal safe.
She made a profit of around 3,000-4,000 baht selling a one-baht weight gold necklace to each client, the newspaper said, adding that Mrs Sonklin has been operating the illegal business for more than 10 years.
