Taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport fined after not using meter.
Pla Suchaya shared her experience online about her argument with a taxi driver from Suvarnabhumi Airport for not using the meter system for the fair. Pla had just arrived in Thailand with her foreign boyfriend. The taxi tried to charge her 700 THB, but in the end she agreed to pay 500 in hopes of making the driver stop complaining.
Police Colonel Kritsana Pattanacharoen from the Royal Thai Police reported an update on Pla Suchaya’s case. She had warned netizens on 31 July 2019 about using the taxi service at Suvarnabhumi Airport to always keep the queue ticket and to make sure the taxi uses the meter system before entering the vehicle. In the ticket is important information about the taxi driver that can be useful to the passenger.
The police contacted Pla and the taxi driver in the story. The taxi driver came to see the police and admitted to all charges. The taxi driver stated that he asked for more money from the passenger and did not use the meter system while picking up the passenger.
The police performed a urinalysis and did not discover any drug use by the driver. Nothing illegal was found inside the driver’s taxi. They then took him to the Suvarnabhumi Police Station to fine the driver accordingly to the charges.
The Thai Police have serious regulations in keeping Thailand’s tourism reputation high, especially in terms of safety and fair treatment of tourists. There have been many arrests made this year including illegal tours, taxi’s not accepting passengers, call center gangs, and more. The police in each area try their best to assist tourists for their convenience and to keep security intact for tourist protection and their belongings. This is enforced in all tourist destinations of Thailand, not just in Bangkok.
