Rubber price rise a boon for planters
With the price of 3rd grade smoked pararubber rising to more than 60 baht per kilogram for the first time in three years, the Thai government is looking for ways to make full use of it, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported yesterday (5 Sept 2020).
But exporting is not the only way to gain income, according to Miss Ratchada Thanadirek, who is the deputy spokeswoman of the Prime Minister’s Office.
With the price increase, the Transport and Communication Ministry will need one million tons of pararubber for traffic-related projects.
The project for an income guarantee for rubber planters has been approved in principle by the Natural Pararubber Committee, and it is awaiting consideration by the Cabinet.
