Smugglers arrested with rare ‘Golden Takian’ tree logs
Three men were arrested and charged with smuggling seven rare ‘Golden Takian’ tree logs in the northern Thai province of Chiang Mai today (Dec 14, 2020).
The seven trees have nearly two meters in diameter and are more than 100 years old, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported.
Forestry officials arrested the smugglers in Samerng National Forest Reserve. Each tree was cut into four-meter-long logs, which the smugglers said would be sent to a temple in Mae Taeng District of Chiang Mai.
