Homestay at a Chumphon fishing village
BY simply resting and relaxing while listening to the sea waves hit the pier and healthy wind blow through amid the setting sun your happiness is multiplied a thousand times.
This sort of an experience can be yours at a homestay in Thong Tom Yai in southern Chumphon province and today Sanook!Travel’s columnist Peeranut P. takes you there.
Ban Thong Tom Yai, in Chumphon’s Sawi district, is a big fishing village on the Gulf of Thailand with the villagers still continuing a simple way of life by the sea.
But it is this simple lifestyle which others find charming and want to try out – a not very large wooden house by the sea that does not have a lot of amenities has turned into something people elsewhere envy.
We opted to stay at Long Noi Homestay for one night and the atmosphere was like coming to stay with relatives.
The homestay lodging is a wooden house built out into the sea, and while there are many corners to rest and relax in, the highlight is the rear of the house which is a small pier.
After resting till nightfall, it was dinner time, and everything was prepared by the couple who own the house. This delicious meal was served at the back of the house, and what could be better than sitting around in a circle and enjoying the food amid this beautiful seascape.
After that we helped wash the dishes, and this is another charming feature because it helped us get close to the owners, and made us feel as if we indeed were staying with relatives.
There are also many activities to enjoy here including diving, and finding out breeding seahorses as this is the biggest center for this purpose.
