Campaign to reduce plastic bags
Today (July 3) is International Plastic Bag Free Day, and several Thai department stores are encouraging customers to bring cloth bags along when they go shopping, the Thai-language Daily News reported.
According to Mr. Chatree Wattanakejorn, chief of Bangkok’s Environment Office, about 45 million plastic bags are discarded daily in the capital city.
Mr. Chatree encouraged shoppers to stop using plastic bags, which are harmful to the environment. Those who want to continue using plastic bags are encouraged to donate money that will be used to support environmental protection campaigns.
