Data on foreigners to be centralized

DEPUTY Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan today (May 16) ordered that all the information on foreigners who come to Thailand be brought together in one database system, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

The collecting and storing of all the information on foreigners, particularly tourists, investors and foreign workers, in a single database is aimed at preventing and tackling international crime and terrorism, the Defense Ministry spokesman Lt-Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich said.

The information gathering starts from the foreigners’ point of entry and includes their accommodation.

Gen Prawit  ordered the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to advise on the technical side of linking data while also telling concerned agencies to track down foreigners who are not already in the system.
