Elephant attacks German man in Pattaya
A local rescue team in Pattaya were notified on the 24th of this month (August 2019) of an injured foreigner that was attacked by a local elephant. The incident took place in Bang Lamung District in Chonburi Province.
The incident took place at a local village when the German man was riding his bicycle along the road. The road was surrounded by forests on both sides and the elephant happened to be walking in the area when the man passed by. When the rescue team arrived they discovered Hans Dieter Sherding 69 years old laying on the ground screaming in excruciating pain.
He was injured with a large wound on his left leg from the elephant. Right beside Hans was his bicycle that he was riding in the time of the attack. The condition of the bicycle showed that the elephant came in to attack him from the front with full force proof from the bent front wheel.
Bunsom 47 years old staff at the Elephant Village in Pattaya reported that Hans lived in the area and regularly bicycled past the area. On the day of the incident, Hans was on his bicycle when he faced the elephant named Ploykamkun 38 Years old face-to-face. Everyone around him at the time shouted for him to slowly back away.
Bunsom stated he didn’t know if Hans couldn’t understand or if he wasn’t listening as might’ve been in shock at the moment. When Hans realized what was in front of him, he stood up on the bicycle to look at the elephant without backing up first. The elephant saw Hans stand up so it ran into him and stabbed one of its trunks straight into his left leg.
Bird 40 years old the caretaker of Ploykamkun stated that he brought the elephant for 1 Million THB and together they came to work at the Elephant Village in Pattaya 1 month ago. On the morning of the incident, he showered Ploykamkun in preparation for the day’s work. Ploykamkun wanted to play and ran away from Bird, where she ran into Hans.
