Former village headman arrested in gang rape of Hmong woman

A FORMER village headman who is a suspect in the gang rape of a Hmong woman in northern Lampang province was arrested at his native Tak province this morning (July 27, 2018), Sanook.com and INN News reported.

Miss Phach, who had swallowed insecticide in a suicide attempt after the gang rape on July 14, 2018, died peacefully at a Lampang hospital on Wednesday with doctors saying her death was due to sudden kidney failure.

Miss Phach had told a representative of the Help Crime Victims Club that the former village headman had tricked her by inviting her to have a meal with him, and then around noon, took her to an apartment in the northern city where she was gang raped.

Lampang Provincial court had issued an arrest warrant for Mr Nopadon, 40, a resident of Phob Phra district of Tak province and Pol Col Manna Kleepsatbut, deputy head of the Human Trafficking Division, and officers from  the Anti-trafficking in Persons Division managed to arrest him at a road in this western province.

The suspect is being taken to his house in Phob Phra district for a search and then is being sent to  Lampang police station for legal action.

Police said the suspect looked calm and told them that he had decided to surrender.
