Policeman drowns while chasing drug suspect
A POLICEMAN drowned while chasing a suspect in Lat Krabang area of Bangkok while four other drug suspects broke out of a police cell in southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province, INN News said today (August 11).
Pol.Sen.Sgt.Maj. Sanluk Singsuphanpetch, 45, of Minburi police station drowned after his team of policemen went to arrest Niphand or Dee Koohaknok, 38, at his house in Lat Krabang after finding out that he was linked to the drug trade.
However as soon as the policemen arrived the suspect ran to the end of the soi and jumped into Prawet Burirom Canal. Pol.Sen.Sgt.Maj. Sanluk followed suit but was later found to have drowned.
Divers are still searching for the body of the suspect as he too could have possibly drowned.
Meanwhile five drug suspects broke out of their cell at Muang District police station in Nakhon Si Thammarat with one caught later but four still on the run.
The four suspects being hunted by the police were identified as Yamurn, 19, Chalermpong, 27, Santi, 28, Pongphat, 37.
The escape took place when Pol.sub.Lt. Tong Utranark went to get the fifth suspect, Sinorot, for questioning. When he took him back and opened the cell door to put him in again the four suspects pushed the door hard and ran off.
While Sinorot also fled he was later caught.
Police at this station explained that there is no CCTV footage because they had just moved into this new station and none had been installed yet.
