Russian man found swimming in middle of ocean near Pattaya.
A Russian man was found floating in the middle of the ocean. The people on a boat that found him thought they were rescuing the man but turns out he was simply out for a very long swim. The man stated he started swimming from Kao Pratumnak in Pattaya to Ko Lan Island. Adsadakorn Bangsi, owner of a rental on Ko Lan island told Khaosod News the story on 20 November 2023. Adsadakorn was on the boat that found the man. It was a boat from Pattaya to Ko Lan and Adsadakorn was on his way home located on the island. It was the first boat at 7 am. They were halfway to the island when the man was spotted floating in the water. This is also where the water level is deepest.
There were heavy waves and people on the boat asked the captain to stop the boat and help the man. The Russian man was visibly out of breath and his eyes were red. After pulling him out of the water the man stated he was swimming to Ko Lan. He currently lives in Kao Patumnak viewpoint and wanted a day trip to the island. When asked why he didn’t take the boat like everyone else, the man simply stated he felt like swimming. The man continued the journey on the boat to Ko Lan. Adsadakorn helped the man onto a speed boat back to Pattaya. At first, Adsadakorn thought the man might have been drunk. but he was not and acted normally with the people on the boat.
The Russian man did not ask for help from the boat and was surprised they found him. The people on the boat were more scared than he was. Adsadakorn states, any good swimmer would have still struggled because the waves were high. When the man was found he was just floating to rest. Adsadakorn also mentioned that the tourism on Ko Lan Island is booming. Everyone wants to visit after Covid and the island is much cleaner overall. It is best to take the boat to Ko Lan from Pattaya and avoid swimming like the man in this story attempted to do. The fair is 30 THB and a speed boat will cost more but is much faster.
