Russian woman swept into the sea from Koh Samui
A RUSSIAN couple who ignored warnings to not go down from a viewpoint at Koh Samui were swept into the sea by three- to four-metre high waves this afternoon (Nov. 29) with the woman having drowned while the man is missing, MNG Online and TV Channel 7 said.
The Russian woman, later identified Ms. Kamilla Belyatskaya, 24, was seen getting out of a red sedan and carrying a pink rubber mat as she walked to the viewpoint at Lad Koh Samui, Bo Phut subdistrict. The couple sat on the rocks below the viewpoint watching the rough sea but were then swept away by strong waves.
Those at the scene said the woman had drowned but the man was seen floating in the stormy sea but neither of them has been found despite Koh Samui Marine policemen and rescuers quickly going there to search for them.
Jet ski rental operators were asked to help search for the couple but only found the mat floating in the sea with the rescue effort temporarily called off after 30 minutes because large waves made it dangerous to continue.
Warning signs had been posted at this viewpoint forbidding tourists from going down below this spot but the couple did not pay attention and did so anyway which led to the waves pulling them into the sea.
