Swiss man arrested for collecting child pornography
ACTING on a tipoff from the US government the Thai police arrested a Swiss man on the charges of storing a large amount of child pornography at a house in Lumlooka district of adjacent Pathum Thani province, INN News reported today (May 23).
Pol Maj-Gen Surachet Hakphan, deputy chief of Tourist Police, and his team arrested Mr Christian Python (name translated as written in Thai), 64, from Switzerland, and seized his computer in which there was a large amount pornographic material of children from 4 to 18 years of age, 500 gigabites of clips of such material and lots of books.
Pol Maj-Gen Surachet said US officials had told him that this house is one of the 10 biggest pornography storage sites in the world and the suspect is wanted by them.
Police later said that they have shut 700 pornographic websites and are chasing their operators for legal action
The suspect, who has been in Thailand for over 20 years, admitted that he did not have a proper job or business and has been collecting this kind of material about children over the past 11 years because he liked watching them. He denied having shared the material on social media nor involved any other person in this activity.
Pol Maj-Gen Surachet said forensic police are checking the suspect’s computer to determine whether this is true or not. If found to have distributed this material he will face an additional charge of human trafficking.
The suspect initially faces charges of holding child pornography which entails not more than 5 years in jail and a fine of not more than 100,000 baht or both.
