Woman, rescuer both die in bridge plunge

IN a double tragedy a young unnamed woman climbed up the fence at Krung Thon bridge and jumped into the Chao Phraya river with a young man repairing the bridge jumping after her to try to save her life but both disappeared, Sanook.com reported today (May 23).

Three more workers in pink shirts jumped in after them to try to save them but failed to do so.

At around 11.30 .am. Pol Capt Wansak Chitchakorn, deputy inspector at Bang Pho police station, told reporters that this woman was a construction worker from Myanmar’s Shan state, and she decided to kill herself by jumping into the river after quarreling with her boyfriend, who is the foreman of a crew working at this bridge.

As her boyfriend could not swim, he told one of the workers to jump in and save her, but he too disappeared in the swiftly flowing river.

It took rescuers and divers over 2 hours to find their bodies and police are still checking the details at this site.
