Thief tells staff “he’s just kidding” in gold robbery.
There was a gold robbery in front of a Tesco Lotus in Wang Hin, Lad Phrao, Bangkok on the morning of 20 October 2019. The thief managed to get away with 24 Baht of gold (15.244 Grams/Baht) before driving away on his motorbike. The Chokchai Police went to inspect the gold shop after the incident took place.
The investigation police revealed that the thief is a male appearing to be in his late teens. He drove his motorbike and parked it in front of the gold shop. He kept watching in front of the gold shop for a while before walking inside. The thief asked a gold shop employee to show him a 5 Baht necklace. When he held the necklace the thief tried to run out the door, but the door has been locked from inside. The thief turned around and walked back to the employee to which he said, “I was just kidding”.
The thief asked to see more gold chains. Then as the staff was choosing the chains for him, the thief jumped behind the counter and pretended to have a weapon in his pockets. He grabbed 6 gold necklaces. The employee thought he had a gun so she unlocked the door. The thief ran out to his motorbike and drove away. The motorbike had no license plate, the driver drove away towards the Lad Phrao intersection.
In total, he managed to get away with 6 gold necklaces at a total weight of 24 Baht worth more than 500,000 THB. A witness stated that the thief drove a Yamaha Fino Motorbike to the gold shop and he sat watching for a while. Paibun Bunmee the Security Guard stated that at around 8 am he heard yelling so he decided to come to check the gold shop. When he arrived he saw the thief who was wearing glasses and a black shirt. Paibun tried to run after the motorbike, but it was too late.
