Trailer-truck mysteriously catches fire in Rayong

AN 18-wheel trailer truck carry sand for delivery to a factory in the coastal province of Rayong caught fire for an unknown reason on the stretch of Sukhumvit Road running here  and completely destroyed the whole vehicle with the driver narrowing escaping the blaze, Thai News Agency said today (March 16).

At 5.30 a.m. this morning Police Sub-inspector Chanti Wannupham at Ban Kram police station in Klaeng district, Rayong, got a report of an 18-wheel trailer truck heavily loaded with sand catching fire on Sukhumvit Road as it enters this district.

The fire started in the engine of the huge vehicle, which was running on NGV and was fitted with eight fuel tanks, and quickly spread all around. It took the three fire engines sent to fight the blaze half an hour to put it out.

Somporn Kalue, 46, from Phayao province who was driving the trailer truck said that he was carrying silica sand from Rayong port for delivery to a factory in Klaeng district and while on the way he smelt fire after which flames started spreading from the engine for an unknown reason and spread rapidly so he quickly parked the vehicle at the side of the road and got out.
