NIA joins Asia’s first Money20/20 event, inviting financial startups/SMEs

The National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) (NIA), a state-owned organisation under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), participated in the press conference for the ‘Money20/20 Asia’ event, a globally acclaimed FinTech expo set to take place for the first time in Asia. Bangkok has been selected as the host city, following Amsterdam and Las Vegas, to welcome over 20,000 finance and technology professionals from around the world to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre from 23 to 25 April. Over 200 distinguished speakers at Money20/20 Asia will include top executives from leading FinTech companies worldwide.

Dr Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) or NIA, stated that NIA is committed to driving Thailand’s innovation ecosystem and supporting startups and entrepreneurs to thrive. Financial Innovation or FinTech is one of the areas where NIA places great importance, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, where people have had to adapt to significant changes. One clear observation is the emergence of a ‘Cashless Society,’ indicating that FinTech has become integral to everyone’s daily life. Two crucial points to emphasise are designing innovations that support senior citizens and ensuring cybersecurity.

“Hosting Money20/20 Asia in Thailand presents a fantastic opportunity to witness the convergence of global FinTech leaders. It fosters a monumental FinTech innovation ecosystem that opens doors for startups and Thai citizens to exchange experiences and knowledge with international FinTech startups, leading towards the creation of globally scalable FinTech innovation businesses. NIA is proud to be one of the speakers under the theme ‘The Way to the Rising Star of Fintech in Asia,’ which will be featured on the Collision Stage on 24 April.”

Mr Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), expressed great pride in Thailand’s opportunity to welcome global leaders in the FinTech industry to Bangkok. Money20/20 Asia is a significant financial expo that brings together professionals from various industries, including financial business leaders and startup experts, to create sustainable momentum and progress for the financial landscape of this region. It is believed that this event will be highly successful, driving forward cutting-edge technology to propel ASEAN’s growth to its fullest potential.

Finally, Mr Danny Levy, Senior Vice President of Money20/20 Asia, concluded on the grandeur of the upcoming event: “Money20/20 was founded in the year 2011 and has taken place in various locations for those interested in payment innovation, FinTech, and connecting the financial service industry globally. This has made it known as a networking promoter. For instance, Money20/20 in Las Vegas (27-30 October 2023), and Amsterdam (4-6 June 2023), have been widely acclaimed as significant financial and FinTech business advancements. This has earned accolades from financial service and FinTech experts as a significant advancement in the financial business sector, and most recently, Money20/20 Asia has been established in Bangkok to enable the digital finance world to conduct business together.

“We are pleased that our global community has the opportunity to visit Bangkok and Asia amidst the current global economic challenges, as mentioned in our white paper. Asia is considered a leader in FinTech and financial services. My team and I feel honoured by the warm welcome from Thailand and the FinTech community in Asia.
