PM Prayut launches construction of first 2 monorail lines
PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha inaugurated the construction of the country’s first 2 monorail lines this morning (August 27, 2018) with these being the Pink line from Khae Rai in Nonthaburi to Minburi and the Yellow line from Lad Phrao to Samrong, Thai News Agency reported.
Accompanying him at the ceremony, which took place at Highways Department office on Srinakharin road, were Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang, Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) Governor Pakapong Sirikantaramas as well as other officials linked to these 2 projects.
Gen Prayut thanked the officials for arranging this ceremony, and pointed out that the 2 monorail lines are of benefit to the country as they will help ease traffic congestion and no more time can be wasted because a lot of people are being affected.
He added that there is no corruption involved in building these 2 rail lines because they are a public-private partnership (PPP) investment that is governed by laws and regulations.
Gen Prayut also instructed those in charge of the construction to put up warning signs, only use a suitable amount of space and build up to standard. He urged everyone to make a sacrifice and help out, with both those who agree with the projects and those who do not pressed to understand.
According to Wikipedia, the Pink monorail line runs a distance of 34.5 kilometers (21.4 miles) from Nonthaburi Civic Center to Minburi and has 30 stations.
The Yellow monorail line’s distance is 30.4 kilometers (18.9 miles) running from Lad Phrao to Samrong and has 23 stations, but there are 2 new proposed stations awaiting approval.
