Fake doctor arrested selling masks and other online items.
A fake doctor was arrested after himself wearing scrubs from a famous private hospital in Thailand. The man has been selling masks and other online items. Customers wanted to buy products from the suspect believing they were quality items as he was a doctor. Most of his customers never received their order. The suspect admitted he has been doing this for at least 10 years. Police Major General Suwat Sangnum gave orders to Police Colonel Bunlue Padunthin at the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) on 23 May 2021. The orders were to arrest Theerapon 29-year-old wanted by the Thonburi Court arrest warrant no. 230/2564 issued on 20 May 2021.
The CSD received complaints from victims stating that Theerapon had scammed them into buying face masks for Covid-19 protection, cameras, shoes, phones, and even skateboards. The suspect would claim that he was a doctor at a famous private hospital and send pictures of him wearing scrubs. The suspects trusted that because he was a doctor, he had high credibility. He would then run off with the money and buyers did not receive what they ordered. The suspect is also wanted on an arrest warrant at the Sarae Police Station. On 4 November 2020 a victim had ordered an iPad air and an apple watch together priced at 19,000 THB.
The suspect never sent them the products as agreed. There is also many victims who have tried warning other possible buyers online. Investigation revealed he was hiding in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province leading to the arrest. Theerapon admitted that he has been doing this for at least 10 years. He always advertised that a doctor was selling the products and it always worked. If a customer wanted proof, he would send them fake pictures of him as a doctor and a fake doctor ID. He even has scrubs for when an interested buyer wanted to video call. Theerapon also revealed that he is addicted to gambling.
