Cave draining team gets hero’s welcome

TWENTY-FIVE men who played a key role in saving the lives of young soccer players and their coach in Chiang Rai received a hero’s welcome in their hometown of Nakhon Pathom this morning (July 13, 2018), Sanook.com reported.

Armed with four big water-pumping machines, the 25 men split into two teams which alternately worked around the clock to drain floodwater from the cave.

“We were worried upon seeing the deep water inside the cave but we were determined to find the boys and their coach,” said team leader Chayatit Hasadangsaikaew.

“I felt like winning the first-prize lottery upon seeing them,” he recalled. “It’s the moment that will remain in my memory.”
