Myanmar quake felt in Chiang Mai, Bangkok

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake which struck Myanmar last night was felt in Chiang Mai and high-rises in  Bangkok, Thai News Agency reported this morning (Jan. 12).

The Thai Meteorological Department’s earthquake monitoring office said the epicenter of this quake, which occurred at 1.26 am this morning and was 5.9 in magnitude and 10 kilometers deep, was 224 kilometers southwest of northern Thai Mae Hong Son province.

This office got reports that the tremors were felt in both northern Chiang Mai city and at high-rises in Bangkok.

Alicia Ann Laisuthruklai, a Thai star, who is holidaying at Mae Hong Son’s Pai town which is a popular tourist destination, posted on Instagram that she too felt the quake.
