Gen Prayut: Govt to support holding Miss Universe contest

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (July 31, 2018) welcomed Miss Universe Organization selecting Thailand to host this year’s pageant,  Thailand News Agency reported.

He pointed out that Thailand had already previously hosted 2 Miss Universe contests, in 1992 and 2005.

Gen Prayut added that it was political stability, security and Thailand potential which helped the country’s selection for this international beauty contest.

“Tourism and Sports and Culture ministries will be instructed to hold talks on what the contest’s format will be and where the funding is going to come from.

“Usually it is the private sector which supports this event because it generates income and is telecast worldwide.

“The government is ready to support it because it will help people across the world get to know Thailand better,” he said.

According to Rappler.com, the pageant is reportedly scheduled on December 16.

Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart and Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters were present at the press conference in Bangkok. Former Miss Universe 1965 Apasra Hongsakula and Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova were also present during the announcement.
