Crackdown on weight-loss drug
THE Medical Science Department (MSP) is cracking down on weight-loss tablets that may cause adverse effects on the consumer, the Thai-language Daily News reported today (August 10, 2018).
MSP inspectors in July found a substance called “desoxy-D2PM” in food supplements on sale in the northeastern Thai province of Ubon Ratchathani.
“The substance suppresses a person’s hunger. If consumed for a long time, it will adversely affect the function of the heart and may result in death,” said MSP director-general Sukhum Kanchanapimai.
The MSP will ask the government to enact a law banning food supplements that contain “desoxy-D2PM.”
“People seeking weight loss must look carefully on the label of the bottle,” he added.
