Russian couple stuck in Thailand, living in a cave.
A Russian couple is stuck in Thailand due to the COVID-19 situation and can’t return back to their country, they have been living in a cave for a week. The Krabi tourist police in Ao Nang met 2 tourists that had been living in a tent under a cave in Tonsai Bay on 18 April 2020. Officials received notifications from locals that there are 2 Russians, both around 30 years old spotted in the area. The 2 tourists are married and now stuck in Thailand. The couple was invited to the Ao Nang Tourist Police Station.
The tourists stated that they came to visit Railay Beach in Krabi Province. It has been over 2 months since their arrival in Thailand. Last month the couple visited the police station to file a report after their drone and camera went missing. Officials couldn’t track down their belongings so the couple had no choice but to let the issue go. Then around the beginning of the month, new safety measures shut down hotels in the area. They both had nowhere to go and because they didn’t know anyone in the area, the couple had to find their own methods of survival.
The tourists found a cave located in Tonsai Bay, they set up a tent inside and have lived there ever since. Officials took the couple to a private hospital in Ao Nang for a health check, both were healthy and had no fever or symptoms of COVID-19. When asked what they were going to do next, the couple replied that they will not be traveling back to Russia until the COVID-19 situation improves. Officials then delivered the couple to a hotel in Krabi, one of the 4 hotels that are allowed to remain open to support foreigners who are still stuck in Thailand. The Russian Embassy in Thailand has been notified of the couple for further help in the future.
