Fire destroys a rubber warehouse in Ubon Ratchathani Province with over 13 Million in damages. Police Captain Suwan Plangknam received a notification at 14.30 on 10 October 2020 about a fire at a rubber warehouse in Det Udom District. Police Colonel Weerapan Naksuk from the Dej Udom Police Station, firefighters from Det Udom District, the local rescue team, Ubon Ratchathani fire trucks, and Officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Ubon Ratchathani went to the location.
Officials arrived at a large single-story warehouse. The warehouse on fire was right in the middle of 2 other rubber warehouses. The warehouse that was on fire stored over 200 tons of rubber sticks. The rubber was about to be delivered to a customer when the fire started. As flames ignited it spread quickly. Firefighters in Ubon Ratchathani all headed to the warehouse and did their best to control the fires, the main goal was to stop the fire from reaching neighboring warehouses that also stored large amounts of rubber. Firefights finally controlled the flames 3 hours after they started.
The fire had burned down at least 200 tons of rubber stored inside worth more than 9 million THB. It also burned down 2 trucks, a forklift, 5 employee rooms, and the structure of the warehouse. Total damages currently stand at 13 Million THB. Chanin Sawangfa an employee at the warehouse, stated he was fixing a truck nearby that is used to carry the rubber. Suddenly he heard an explosion sound and a burning smell from behind the warehouse.
Chanin ran to other employees telling them to get out. The employee was afraid that his friends would be injured in the incident. The fire spread quickly and not long after it had already taken away most of the rubber sitting in the warehouse. Officials believe this is an electrical fire but forensics investigators from the province are collecting evidence to confirm the cause of the fire.
