Colorful candle boat procession in Ayutthaya
TOURISTS watched in awe as a colorful Buddhist Lent candle procession floated down a canal in adjacent Ayutthaya province today (July 27, 2018), which is Asanha Bucha Day, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.
Ayutthya province Governor, Mr Suchin Chaichomsak, and the Mayor of Ladchado municipality, Mr Kriengsak Phimphandee, presided over the launch of 170 boats carrying large carved candles that floated down the canal for 2 kilometers. They were later given to various temples for the 3-month Buddhist Rains Retreat starting tomorrow.
These traditional boats were beautifully decorated by local residents, students and officials with flowers and other natural products to highlight the lifestyle of the people of this district.
With the brave international rescue of the 12 soccer boys and their coach from Tham Luang cave in northern Chiang Rai province earlier this month still fresh in everyone’s mind, one of the candle-carrying boats told this story.
