Beware of the box jellyfish

A number of Thais are still on a long holiday. For those who like to swim in the sea, it is wise to stay away from the box jellyfish, the Thai-language Daily News reported yesterday (July 29, 2020).

In an interview with the paper, Skin Medical Department Director-General Mingkwan Wichaidit said the box jellyfish’s venom is among the most deadly in the world, containing toxins that attack the heart, blood circulation, nervous system and skin cells.

A victim may succumb to the venom within 20 minutes.

To be safe, do not swim in the sea where there are box jellyfish. Wearing your clothes in shallow water or diving gear also helps, according to Dr Mingkwan.
