Chiang Mai thieves target drunken drivers

A Chiang Mai resident and his wife were arrested shortly after midnight last night and charged with stealing valuable items from unlocked cars whose drivers were either drunk or too tired to drive home, Chiangmai News reported today (Jan. 31).

Police detectives decided to take action after several complaints were made about the mysterious couple. Last night, a dozen policemen laid in wait on the side of the road, and caught the suspects as they were about to break into a car.

“We were lucky to catch them,” a police detective said. “We did know when they would strike again. They normally laid low after breaking into a car.”
