Customer goes silent after ordering 30 drinks.
Food delivery drivers are gaining popularity in Thailand, especially in Bangkok and other cities in the country. The reasons are simple, the convenience of dining your favorite food without having to leave the house, the restaurant offers discount promotions that can only be used when purchased via delivery or through the application, and very cheap delivery fees oftentimes for free. There have been many cases of customers putting in big orders and cancels or going silent after the delivery man has purchased the order and already arrived at the restaurant.
Perhaps the system will be more reasonable if the food delivery applications require customers to pay before confirming the order, currently, the cost of the food comes out of the delivery driver’s pocket and is re-paid along with the delivery fee when the customer receives the order. Some netizens suggested that application users might be pranking the drivers, but how is a prank funny when the driver is left with a large pile of food and thousands missing from their wallet.
The latest and one of the worst cases goes to a Food Panda delivery driver. A customer had ordered 30 drinks then went missing after the driver went to deliver at the pinned location. The delivery driver posted in his Facebook Nat Sripong (นัฐ ศรีปล้อง) “I received an order for 30 drinks but when I went to deliver at the pinned address the customer shut his phone off. What should I do now? Give it all for free to others. #sharingfromtheheartofapanda”.
Another case went to a Grabfood driver who received a pizza order and paid 1,800 THB for the food. The customer then cancels the order, luckily in this case the company helped return the costs to the driver. A netizen helped share in the comment that even if the company returns the cost, a -3% deduction still applies and it is extremely unfair to the driver.
