Krabi beach vendors fined after fracas

A FRACAS broke out before noon today (April 4) when municipal officials tried to remove vendors who were disturbing tourists on Ao Nang Beach in the southern Thai tourist city of Krabi, the Thai-language Daily News reported.

The officials took action after receiving a lot of complaints from Thai and foreign tourists that hawkers tried to force them to buy trinkets and other local souvenirs while they were relaxing on the beach.

Three officials were slightly hurt when the vendors hit them with sticks and cursed them for “disrupting” their business. Three vendors were eventually taken to the police station and fined 2,000 baht each.
