Massage parlor tycoon on the run
WEALTHY massage parlor owner Kampol Weeratepsuporn has fled Thailand to avoid charges of human trafficking, abetting prostitution and money laundering, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported today (March 26).
The well-connected businessman made big newspaper headlines three years ago, when the then Royal Thai Police Office Commander Gen Somyot Poompanmuang publicly admitted that he had once borrowed 300 million baht from Mr Kampol, the paper said.
Mr Somyot and several other people close to Mr Kampol will be called to testify as witnesses.
The Department of Special Investigation will wrap up the case and forward it to the Office of the Attorney-General before March 30.
Kampol, 61, is one of the owners of Victoria’s: The Secret Forever, the massage parlor on Rama IX road which police raided in January.
Over a hundred workers found at the parlor were young, illegal migrants from neighboring countries who may have been forced to work in the sex trade.
