One ‘kratong’ for one family

The annual Loy Kratong Festival is coming up, and Bangkok Governor Asawin Kwanmuang is urging Bangkokians and tourists to help reduce the number of discarded ‘kratong’ and ‘floating lanterns’ , the Thai-language Daily News reported yesterday (Nov 8, 2019).

So this year’s motto from the governor is “One Kratong, One Family.”

Last year, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) collected 841,327 discarded krathongs from the waterways. About 796,440 of them were made from natural materials, and 44,883 were made from styrofoam.
