Outgoing Army Chief to stay out of politics
ARMY Commander-in-Chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart, who is stepping down at the end of this month, said today (Sept. 7, 2018) that he is uncertain whether he will serve the country again after retirement but will probably not get involved in politics because he does not like playing politics, Thai News Agency reported.
Gen Chalermchai added that the Peace and Order Maintaining Command will be ready to take care of the situation after the political activity ban has been lifted, because the mission remains the same.
However he believes there will less movement by various public groups or perhaps none at all.
Nevertheless Gen Chalermchai admitted that he is still concerned about movement on social media, but pointed out that a unit is monitoring this.
“Over the 2 years as head of the army I was able to work according to the strategy I had set, such as ‘Smart Man Smart Army.’ However the continuation of this strategy depends on the new Army Chief.”
