Phuket emergency landing fails to save passenger’s life

AN emergency landing at Phuket Airport by a Qatar Airways airplane this morning failed to save an elderly Australian man’s life as he later died in the hospital, Thai News Agency said today (Feb.1).

Qatar Airways flight number QR 842 flying on the Doha-Phuket route made an emergency landing at 6.14 a.m. this morning after Jean Gustave Gruter, an 89-year-old Australian, fainted in the bathroom at 3.20 a.m.

Police Captain Kraisorn Boonprasob, deputy investigation inspector at Thalang police station in Phuket, said Mr Gruter was quickly taken to Thalang Hospital but passed away due to suspected congenital disease.

An initial examination did not find anything suspicious on his body but a team of medical examiners are performing an autopsy to find the cause of his death before handing his body to his relatives and friends who accompanied him on the journey for funeral service.
