Police in hot water over smuggled rhino horns
TWO Thai police officers have been transferred to inactive positions after they were caught on CCTV at Suvarnabhumi International Airport escorting luggage that was later found to contain nearly 50 kilograms of smuggled rhino horns, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported today (March 17).
The smuggled horns – prized by some wealthy people for their alleged medicinal quality – are worth about 173 million baht.
Thai Rath said investigation into the illegal smuggling will continue to find out the people behind the smuggling ring.
