Police sting nabs Facebook drug trafficker

ACTING on a tip-off from a spy that drugs are being sold via Facebook, police in Mae Sot town on the border with Myanmar lured the drug trafficker into a trap and arrested him on spot while also seizing 10,000 methamphetamine pills, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported today (May 30, 2018).

Upon being ordered by  Pol Col Phasakorn Klanwarn, the head of Mae Sot police station, to track down this drug pusher, crime and drug suppression police got their spy to place an order for some of this type 1 narcotic drug.

Just as the spy paid 230,000 baht in 1,000 baht banknotes for the 10,000 methamphetamine pills, or yaba, to the suspect, Mr Thiraphan Kawinvanich, 23, at the car park of a convenience store, police moved in and arrested him.

Aside from the drug and money, police also seized the suspect’s mobile phone because the illegal drug deal had been struck via both Facebook and this phone.
