Price rise hits glutinous rice consumers
Vendors selling barbecued chicken with glutinous rice have received a lot of complaints from consumers who are now getting a smaller portion of the rice.
A food vendor in Talad Thai Market in Klong Luang District of Pathum Thani Province, adjoining Bangkok, told the Thai-language daily Matichon on Saturday (August 24, 2019) that the price of glutinous rice has been rising during the past two months.
“I now have to pay 39 baht for a kilo of glutinous rice, compared with 20 baht a week ago,” said the vendor. “It is the biggest price increase in 30 years.”
A consumer told the Thai-language daily Matichon that the vendors have reduced the amount of cooked glutinous rice while maintaining the current price.
