Pungent smell of durian fails to protect drug dealer

THAI narcotics suppression police got more than they bargained for when they swooped on a house belonging to a drug dealer in Samut Prakan Province, adjoining Bangkok, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported today (May 19).

Breaking down the door, the police were hit by the pungent smell of durian (a spiky Thai fruit with sweet but smelly pulp). They arrested the drug dealer along with 377 methamphetamine pills, which he intended to sell to agents in the town district.

“I thought the durian would save me from police sniffer dogs,” he said. “It didn’t work.”
