Swiss grandpa flies in to search for Thai wife
A 99-year-old Swiss man who has been separated from his Thai wife for many years flew to Thailand to search for her, and with the help of Tourist Police, the long lost lovers have now been reunited, Thai News Agency reported today (June 27, 2018).
Pol Col Phanchai Chuenchaitham, deputy head of Tourist Police region 2, said on Friday June 22 he was contacted by Mr Emile Georges Jean Petit Matile, 99, through a Thai Airways International staff member that he was looking for his long lost Thai wife.
While he had her address and telephone number written on a piece of paper, he could not contact her.
Pol Col Phanchai contacted Mr Uaychai Sithong, deputy head of Koh Tao municipality, Koh Phangan island district, to help find the woman. It was later discovered that her name is Chai Klubwon (maiden surname), 70, and that she is living on Koh Phangan. She sent her photo to the elderly Swiss man, and he confirmed she was his wife, with the 2 of them now happily reunited.
Chai said that previously she was a trader and had a Thai husband and 2 children, a boy and a girl, but after her husband died, she found new love with Emile.
She traveled with him to Switzerland and they registered their marriage there, she said, adding Emile had also built a house in Thailand on Koh Phangan to use when he was here.
After living together for many years, Emile felt sick and had to return to his home country for medical treatment. Chai said she came to see him off in Bangkok but had not met him since then.
However, she is very happy Emile came looking for her.
