Thai Buddhist monks granted bail

FIVE Buddhist monks from the Dhammakaya Temple were granted bail by Thanyaburi Provincial Court today (March 31), the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.

The monks were charged with resisting orders from the now-defunct National Peace-keeping Council (NPKC), which had sought to arrest the abbot, Phra Dhammajayo, for alleged money laundering.

The abbot reportedly had close ties to former Thai politicians, and critics said political power play was behind the move against the abbot, said the paper.
