Two suspects caught: Luggage theft at Suvarnabhumi
Two suspects were arrested by police at Suvarnabhumi airport with possible charges of luggage theft on the 2nd of November this year. This is a perfect example of why your personal belongings are never safe, even when in official care of the airline and airport, those with bad intentions will find a way to steal them from you for their own good.
The Major General Police Surachet Hukpal of the Immigration office reported the arrest of two suspects, Jeu a male Canadian – Chinese and Jea from China. Together, they had three pieces of luggage with them and the belongings that belonged to the victims of their crimes, with a total worth of over 300,000 THB. Together they sit with masks on to cover their faces while being photographed by the media after they were arrested by the police.
Both suspects stole the pieces of luggage by picking them up at the airport conveyor belt, where making it seem as if it was there property. After being questioned by the police with substantial proof, both suspects admitted to the crime. It is estimated from their actions that this was not the first time that they attempted to steal travelers belongings and that they may have successfully done so before.
The suspects had full intention to enter Suvarnabhumi airport and steal items of luggage that belonged to passengers of multiple airlines and not the airline that they traveled with. Their method of choosing which luggage to steal was simple those that had a name brand and a demand in the market. The stolen luggage was planned to be sold abroad to possible buyers.
Major Surachet also stated that further investigation will help reveal whether these two suspects have committed similar crimes before and if so where. Although, it is estimated that they have done so previously many times due to their planning and actions. They are currently charged with joint theft at the airport during night time and are detained for further prosecution by the law.
