Vasectomy for Lanta Island monkeys
VETERINARIANS this morning (July 26, 2018) performed vasectomy on 205 monkeys on the tourist island of Lanta to control the number of the wild animals, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.
National park officials have received a lot of complaints from tourists that the monkeys stole their belongings and food. Some of them even bit tourists who tried to chase them away.
The neutered monkeys will be relocated to a mangrove forest covering about 3,000 rai of land far from the tourist area. “We are still considering what to do with the remaining 800 monkeys,” a park official told Matichon.
