Yellow flags put up at popular beach
YELLOW flags appeared at the popular Ao Manao beach in Prachuab Kriri Khan province today (Dec. 17) to warn tourists that it is currently too dangerous to go swim or play in the seawater, Thai News Agency reported.
The Wing 5 at the Royal Air Force Base in this western province, around 240 kilometers south of Bangkok, within which Ao Manao actually lies, put up to the flags for the safety of tourists.
Mr Kittikorn Thepyuamnuay, head of Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office in this province, said strong northeasterly winds are still blowing through the Gulf of Thailand and are steadily getting stronger, which have led to large waves hitting a 200-kilometer stretch of the coast from Hua Hin till Bang Saphan Noi district.
All district officials and security agencies here have been told to warn local people who live near the sea, as well as tourists kite-surfing at Prachuab and Manao bays, to be careful during this period.
